It's All Fun & Games Blogfest

Today I'm participating in Alex J. Cavanaugh's It's All Fun & Games Blogfest. So here are my top three favorite games (not in any particular order) and why:

#1 - Ticket to Ride is one of my newest favorites. It reminds me somewhat of Settlers of Catan (another one of my favorites), but it's a little simpler and easier for kids to play. Try to complete as many "trips" as possible by filling in the tracks with your train cars. This is a great family game.

#2 - Loaded Questions is a great game to play with a group of people you know well. Try to match up the answers with the people who gave them. How well do you really know your family and friends?

#3 - I've posted about Balderdash before because it's one of my all-time favorite games and a great game for us creative types. You get to make up and try to fool others with your own word definitions, bizarre laws, movie plots and more.

Those are my top three. To read the rest of the It's All Fun & Games blogfest entries, click here.

What's your favorite game?

Neato. Never played any of these. Looks fun though. We're busy training a new pup so our new fun games are, Don't Eat That, Drop That, and Where Did You Get That?

Balderdash is one of my favorites, but I always have to play with new people (I'm really good at it, and the hubby hates losing).

For family nights, since my kids are still pretty young, we play a lot of the Cranium games. The family fun one has teams, so we pair one adult with one child. VERY fun.

I need to try the other two. Ticket to Ride seems like it would be great for the kids.

Great games! I love Balderdash, hadn't played it in forever! :)

I have one small problem with playing games and that is that the cats are the only things that I have to play games with although we do have our own little games to play such as chase, grab the fish, etc. That Balderdash sounds like fun. I do play some internet games when desperate.

Really, there's nothing like a good game of Monopoly to pass an evening!

I love Ticket to Ride! I also love Balderdash, but I suck at it. No one ever believes my definitions.

Settlers of Catan is one of my favorites, and I've recently discovered Ticket to Ride, too. Balderdash is hilarious when played with the right group of friends!

Thanks! I'll have to keep and eye out for Ticket to Ride.

We're taking an 'unplugged' family vacation this year, renting a house in a hot spot. I'll be looking for these games before I go. A favourite of mine is Milbourne (car card game based on french race car driver).

I love Ticket to Ride and Settlers. Have you ever played Acquire? It's a board game kind of in the same vein as those two - and just as addicting :)

Balderdash is the only one I'd heard of. It's great. Ticket to Ride sounds good too.

Balderdash is a great choice! It's one of the games that go in the trunk when we go to visit family. Of course, my brother always wins because he's so full of.....creative juices.

Can I stay if I promise not to drink your coffee?

I haven't heard of the first two, but Balderdash is my FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME! Love, love, love it!!

Ah yes, Balderdash - we had a group that used to play that! Actually we used to play a lot of those games. Great choices!

Loaded Questions sounds like a game I would like. It sounds like its similar to Taboo in that it can tell you how well you know your partner. Or how well you don't.

Theresa Milstein said...

I haven't played any of those games. I'm not a big game person. I do like Bananagrams once in a while and my daughter loves Scrambled States of America, so I'll play that with her.

balderdash is the only one I've played before, I used to love it

What an awesome idea for a blogfest! I love Ticket to Ride. Some of my other favorites are Settlers of Catan, Bang, Bonanza, and Wacky 6! I'm a major gamer when it comes to board games.

I haven't played Balderdash in so long!

Jeff Beesler said...

My wife, her family, and I all love playing Loaded Questions!

Yikes. I haven't played the three you listed. I need to go out more.

I love Monopoly.

Margo Berendsen said...

I havent' heard of the first two, but since Balderdash is my favorite too, I'll bet I'll like the other two!

Do card games count? I love Suicide Solitaire, sometimes also called Nerts, where you play solitaire against other teams instead of by yourself, it's wicked fast and fun.

We play a lot of board games - I'll have to look for those!

WRITING CONTEST.....My blog Amish Stories is having its first ever contest this week. The First prize winner will win 2 tickets to tour the farm where the 1985 move "Witness" staring Harrison Ford and Kelly Mcgillis was made in Strasburg,Pa . This farm is now Amish owned, and the family has given permission for folks to tour their farm. This may be the last time anyone will be able to walk and see the same things that Harrison Ford and the other actors saw during the making of "Witness". The Witness tour should last about 2.5 hours. In addition to the Witness farm tour tickets, 1st prize winner will also receive 2 tickets for Jacobs choice. There will also be a 2nd place prize, which will be 2 tickets for the Amish Homestead. Please go to My blog www.AmishStorys.com for contest details, and more information on the prizes. Richard from the Amish settlement of Lebanon county.

These sound like fun. It's been forever since I've played a game, but I used to love Monopoly and Yahtzee and Scrabble.

Oh, I love games. Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit (any version), Taboo, Password, is there a limit?

I want to try Balderdash.
