Monty Python and an Angsty Fairy

I just love you guys! You answered the call and provided me with some really fantastic questions to celebrate my blogiversary - thank you! I've divided the questions into three categories: Personal, Blogging, and Writing. Today I'll start with the personal questions (which I divided into two posts because there were so many). Here goes:

***
Q - Sheri Larsen asks: "Favorite character crush?"

A - Roiben from Holly Black's books, Tithe and Ironside. Sure he's a fairy, but he's a really good looking, powerful, angsty fairy, and I love the way he talks. Case in point: "I have had a surfeit of killing, Kaye." Love that line!

***

Q - Bish Denham asks: "What was the first novel you can remember reading? How old were you?"

A - Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great by Judy Blume. I was probably in about third grade. I was a HUGE Judy Blume fan as a kid, and Sheila was one of my favorites.

***

Q - Kelly Polark asks: "Of course I want to know what your favorite song or band is!"

A - I'll admit up front, I'm not up on the latest music. My favorite band is Matchbox Twenty. I have a lot of favorite songs, but if I had to pick just one, I'd probably go with Melt With You by Modern English. Please don't hate me because I'm living in the past. :)

***

Q - Jemi Fraser asks: "What book really hooked you as a kid?"

A - I remember absolutely loving The Headless Cupid by Zilpha Keatley Snyder. I read everything I could find by her after that, like The Changeling and Black and Blue Magic. Thus began my love of fantasy.

***

Q - Clara asks: "If you had to choose between a baby monkey in diapers or a cute puppy dog, which would you take home?"

A - I've had enough diapers to last a lifetime (or at least until I'm a grandmother). I'll take the puppy, please.

***

Q - Lenny Lee asks: "i could want to know how could do so much good posts and get around to all those blogs and do comments and do comments back to commenters and still get time for reading and for being a writer and being a wife and mom and not getting any sleep. yikes! that was a pretty long question. ha ha"

A - You're so sweet to ask, Lenny! The answer is, I'm very, very lucky because I get to be a stay-at-home mom. Now that all my kids are in school, it leaves me a lot of time to write, blog, and nap during the day. Yes, I nap everyday, usually for two hours. But since I don't sleep much at night so I can get up early and write, I figure it all works out.

***

Q - Stephen Tremp asks: "What is the flight of a swallow?"

A - Is that an African or European swallow?

***

Q - Sharon Mayhew asks: "When are you going to come and visit me???"

A - Nice try, Sharon! :)

***

How about you guys: What was your favorite book as a kid? What's your favorite band/song? Puppy or Monkey? Care to weigh in on the swallow question?

Have a great Monday!

Fun post. Puppy or monkey? Puppy, but throw a cat in the mix and I'd choose the cat above all :)

I am insanely jealous about the nap thing.

Loved these questions AND answers! Happy Blogoversary!

As for the book, I loved the Five Chinese Brothers. I think to determine the swallow question you really have to weigh in with whether it's African or European. :)

Awwwww you must see the lovely Sharon K Mayhew!!!

What fabulous questions and lovely answers even if I've not heard of the Matchbox Twenty. Ahem.

Oooh I'll take monkeys sans nappies AND puppies too - cos they're both too adorable!.

The Swallow question is so the Monty Python Holy Grail Sketch!!! Just before the killer rabbit scene! LOL!!! I say "Ni!".

Take care
x

Cool answers, Susan, it's nice to learn more about you. I'm also curious to know what the flight is of both an African and European swallow. You'll have to post a follow up.

I loved Judy Blume!

Thanks for the answers - I love Sharon's question! :)

I loved Judy Blume as a girl, too!
And I still love Duran Duran and go to their concerts so I love 80's music too! :)

I loved Where the Sidewalk Ends. I don't know about the music. I like lots, but not rock or rap. Puppy - for sure. And the only thing I can say about the swallow is that I love their little mud nests and how they dive bomb my cat (they're brave - or is it stupid?).

We are the nights who say "Ni!"

This is such a fun idea! I'm sorry I missed asking a question! But these are some fine questions! Loved Judy Blume too. But I'd have to go with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for my first big read.

I loved reading this. I believe James and the Giant Peach hooked me as a young reader.

That was such fun! Great questions and fun answers.

Great answers! I'd pick the monkey so long as it was a loaner and I could give it back after it destroyed my house.

I always wanted a monkey when I was a kid, then I found out most of them are nocturnal... not so much any more!

I think my favourite first book was Anne of Green Gables.

Thanks for answering! Lots of fun!

I like your answers!

Well, I was a "kid" a LONG time ago. I loved Anne of Green Gables. I also liked Nancy Drew and now can't understand why I did. We change as we get older!! I read a lot of historical fiction, which I loved, and O. Henry Award short stories. This was in the Fifties. (I said I was old!)

I have to re-follow you. A glitch in Blogger forced me to do a new blog. I exported and imported my old one but lost my followers. I did, however, print a copy of them. It is just taking me some time to get the ones back that I want to keep following. So here I am and glad to be back!!!

That is so cool! You actually got the answer to my question correct. Amazing how many people get it wrong, or simply ask, "Huhn?" Now I can call my day a day and go to sleep in peace.

Good comeback for Stephen's question. And a puppy wins every time.

My favorite book as a kid was The Mouse and the Motorcycle.

What fun! Thanks for this peek into your soul.

My fave book as a child? Romona and Beezus.

Nice to know more about you. And Sharon's question WAS RIGHT ON. You go girl. :)

Mine was Black Beauty. I read it at least 50,000 times. :)

Definitely an African swallow. :) I just know stuff. hehe

I LOVED getting to know more about you! I'm only sad that I missed getting to ask a question since I haven't been around the blogosphere lately.

I'll add to Sharon's question: When are we all going to meet up in person????!!! :o)
