Toss Around Thursday - Agent Blogs

There is so much good information out there on the blogosphere. I learn (and laugh) each time I take a tour of the most recent posts. There are a couple of agent blogs that I follow, but I know I should be reading many more. So I'm hoping today with Toss-Around Thursday, I (and hopefully other readers) can get some good agent blogs to check out. So, how about it? Which are your favorite agent blogs?

Like I said, I don't read nearly enough agent blogs, but one I do like to visit and have learned a lot from is Nathan Bransford's blog. If you haven't already, I highly recommend you check out this awesome blog.

Happy Thursday!

He gives so much great information I can never get enough! I don't follow a ton of agent blogs but I think it's because I'm still working on finding my own. Once I finish the first draft of my novel I'll be hitting the ground running on crit groups and then work my way up to agent blogs, learning all I can about the buiz!

Hi

Nathan Bransford's blog has been going strong since forever and is so definitely worth checking.

Not exactly an agent's blog but I find the Writer's and Artist's Yearbook blog very helpful. Actually the site itself is very helpful.

Take care
x

I can't say that I follow agent blogs but, there are some fabulous food blogs out there that amaze me everyday. Not too mention non-food blogs that are writers like yourself, who have found a creative outlet in the blogosphere.

I love Nathan's blog. It's informative but it's not patronising - you get the sense he really wants to help you, not just make his own job easier.

i've stopped reading industry blogs - BUT, when i did, here were some of my favorites - Rachelle Gardner is always very very helpful - Janet Reid is very snarky, but i learned the most on how to craft a Query letter from her - Book Ends is helpful, as is Dystel & Goderich Literary Management. There's also Bent on Books and the new McVeigh Agent blog but i'm less familiar with those.
And Pub Rants, can't forget about that one

I occasionally visit various agent blogs. There's always something to learn, or some interesting agent story to enjoy. I like Dystel & Goderich's blog too. The various agents there post, so you do get different viewpoints.

Nathan's blog is extremely helpful. I haven't been reading industry blogs lately because, but I will start up again when I get close to querying. There is so much great informations out there.

I'm getting really bad at following agent blogs. I used to read them all the time. Now I spend time reading the blogs of aspiring writers. Somehow it's more satisfying and I learn a lot more. Plus some are darn funny!

Hi Everyone - thanks for your great comments! Looks like Nathan is a big hit! And it also looks like I'm not so alone in not reading agent blogs religiously, which is good to know - I feel less out of it now. Thanks for everyone for your great suggestions - I'll definitely be checking those out!

I'm with Stina. I love to follow aspiring author blogs, I can relate better. It's my community. Since I'm not looking for an agent, I don't regularly follow them. I do like kidlit.com. I think she's an agent. That's my favorite-- lots of good insights on the industry.

Rachelle Gardner is a daily read for me. I never want to miss out. She is now doing query letters on some of her posts, and dissecting them for all to see. Very helpful!

I read what everyone else is reading but I've grown so used to what they say I skim most of them now. Unless it's really important in the publishing industry -- e-rights, the whole Harlequin debacle, Kindle etc.

I love Nathan's blog. He gives such great info and his voice makes even the bad news easy to swallow. I also follow Rachelle Gardner.

I love Nathan's site. His is about the only one I read regularly. :)

I follow Mary's Kid Lit blog and, more recently, Nathan's blog. I also find the Writer's Digest blogs by Jane Friedman and Chuck Sambuchino helpful.

Nathan's blog is my favorite, and he links to other agent blogs in his Friday posts sometimes. I also like Mary's (kidlit), Kristen's (pubrants) and Kathleen Ortiz's (kortizzle?).

And this isn't an agent blog, but Krista interviews agents (awesome agents) about once a week on her blog: http://motherwrite.blogspot.com/

Nathan's awesome. Some other really great folks are:

Jessica Faust at BookEnds
Janet Reid
Rachelle Gardener
Elana Roth
Colleen Lindsey

Susan,
Nathan says a lot of great things, but he is SO big now that I don't feel that personal connection. Mary Kole has a great blog, so does Suzie Townsend. I still have Nathan on my blog roll, but I have a lot of others too. I put agents that represent all levels of children's writing on my roll. Jane Yolen told me that having an agent allows you to write whatever you want to write....Therefore, I only pay attention to agents that represent all genres from board books to YA.

After awhile agent blogs start to feel redundant. Poor things, I think they just keep getting the same info asked of them (one of the reasons Miss Snark retired) but thus far I think Mary Kole has been able to keep her blog really appealing. So my vote is for kidlit.com. You should like her especially since she talks a lot about MG and YA.

Good luck, Susan!

Yes, Nathan most definitely rocks. I started reading his blog last summer and taking notes. Good stuff there!!

I used to read all of the agents that blog, but, like my friend Anne (Piedmont Writer) above, I grew bored, now I read them only when there is big industry news.
Also, like many above, I prefer to use my blog time reading (and commenting) the blogs of my fellow writers. You're my peeps. :o)

Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments - I've learned a lot through your responses. While I'm definitely looking forward to checking out the blogs that have been suggested (especially since I'll - hopefully - be querying soon), I'm also feeling better about not being a big agent blog reader - it looks like I'm not alone on that front, which is good to know. :)

I've been putting together a list of the 'lesser knowns' as I am calling them .. you know, blogging agents or editors who aren't super popular but still great to read. One is Martha Mihalick (editor) at marthamihalick.com

Shelli - Nathan seems to be very popular!

Tess - thanks for the suggestion - I'll definitely check Martha's blog out.
